Huawei will launch its foldable 5G smartphone at MWC 2019. Yes you heard us right. There was a Huawei Mobile’s 5G launch event in Beijing where Richard Yu, CEO of the company’s Consumer Business Group, said “We look forward to seeing you in Barcelona in February, where we will launch the world’s first 5G smartphones with foldable screen.”.
In the Pre-MWC briefing on 5G it is announced that Huawei will be using its new Balong 5000 5G chip. The phone will use the Kirin 980 chipset in combination with the Balong 5000 modem. Well, “phones” actually, the slide suggests there will be more than one 5G handset presented in Barcelona (presumably, only one of them will be foldable).
There were rumours about Samsung Galaxy foldable device with 5G connectivity, but that hasn’t been officially confirmed. Since there is no official confirmation from Samsung so Huawei would be the first” 5G smartphone with a foldable display”
2018 MWC was all about Notch and In-Display fingerprint scanner but now with teasers from Samsung, Lenovo, Xiaomi, and now Huawei, this year’s MWC event should be about folding displays.
